The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's soccer team scored four straight goals to pick up their first conference win over UW-Oshkosh on Wednesday night.
UW-Oshkosh struck first after a free kick sailed over the Warhawk wall and goalie.
It didn't take too long for the Warhawks to answer back.
Emily Thill (West Chicago, Ill./St. Francis) placed a corner and
Liz Prigge (Palatine, Ill./Fremd) rose up to head the ball into the goal.
The Warhawks took the lead not long after, after
Brittany Ellinghaus (Plainfield, Ill./North) made a nice defensive play in the offensive box to regain control of the ball. Ellinghaus crossed the ball over to
Gianna Zamborini (Louisville, Ken/duPont Manual) who placed the ball in the top left out of the reach of the Titan keeper.
UW-Whitewater added two more goals to their lead, both from long range. Thill had the first from almost 25 yards after a pass from
Maya Rebic (Elmhurst, Ill./York Community). Ellinghaus took her shot from almost 40 yards out, with the ball bouncing off the top crossbar down into the goal.
For the keepers,
Jude Dobrinska (Milwaukee, Wis./Ronald Reagan College Prep) made three saves in 73 minutes,
Emma Hager (Arlington Heights, Ill./Hersey) finished out the rest of the game, making two saves in her 17 minutes.
The Warhawks improve to 1-0-1 in WIAC play, tied for second with UW-Eau Claire. For the next game, UW-Whitewater will head to UW-La Crosse to take on the first place Eagles. The match is set for 2 PM on October 7th.
