Luke VanDonslear (Marion, Iowa/Linn Mar) punched his ticket to the ITA Cup after finishing as the runner-up in the ITA Regional Singles Championship Monday morning. The ITA Regional was hosted by Gustavus Adolphus College in Saint Peter, Minnesota.

VanDonslear is no stranger to championship matches at the ITA Regional - or competing against Gohl for the title. Last season, VanDonslear won the ITA Regional Doubles title with former teammate John Zakowski (Green Bay, Wis./Southwest) defeating Gohl and Drew Elofson 11-10 in a thrilling match. To advance to the singles championship, VanDonslear took down two other Gusties - John Christensen (6-4, 6-4) in the quarterfinal and Rafael Costa (6-4, 6-1) in the semis.

This season, Gohl evened the score taking the first set 6-3. VanDonslear had a lead in the second but ended up falling 7-5. 

The ITA Cup is comprised of the eight regional champions (and/or at-large selections) from NCAA Divisions II and III, NAIA, and junior/community colleges.
