No. 7 Warhawks Fall to No. 3 Titans

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's volleyball team fell to league rival UW-Oshkosh 3-0 (25-22, 25-23, 25-17) in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opener Wednesday night in Russell Arena. The Warhawks are ranked seventh while the Titans are third in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association poll.

The Titans took an early lead in set one pulling ahead by as much as seven, 10-3, when the Warhawks started to battle back. UWW scored eight of the next nine to knot the set 11-11. Outside hitters Jenna Weinfurt (Waukesha, Wis./Catholic Memorial) and Ally Warburton (St. Charles, Ill./North) led the way with three kills as Abbie Dix (Brodhead, Wis./Brodhead) added a fourth and Aubrie Krzus (Wheaton, Ill./Warrenville South) tallied a service ace in that span.

The set would go back and forth the rest of the way until UWO put together a small run to take a 23-19 advantage. The Warhawks put the pressure on with Dix hammering down another kill followed by a Titan miscue that made it 23-21. A pair of UWO kills in the next three points made the final, 25-22.

The second set was a back-and-forth battle from the onset with neither team leading by more than three points the entire way. Weinfurt pounded down four kills in the set. Payton Kuepers (Madison, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran), Warburton and Anderson combined for eight kills without committing a single attack error.

UW-Oshkosh carried the momentum through the third set as the Warhawks struggled offensively hitting just .098. The Titans registered the most efficient offensive output of the match hitting .300 in the set.

For the match, Weinfurt led all hitters with 11 kills. Anderson was UW-Whitewater's most efficient offensively with five kills and no errors. Anderson and Warburton tallied three assist blocks each.

Libero Morgan Jensen (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie) dug up 10 balls and Krzus captained the offense with 28 assists.

The Warhawks are back in action in Russell Arena Friday night against Augustana. The match is slated for an 8 pm start.
