The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Warhawks finished up their seven game road series Wednesday night by traveling to Dubuque to take on Loras College. After 90 minutes, the score remained tied at 3 a-piece. The annual battle for the Duhawk Cup ends in a tie, so UW-Whitewater retains possession of the cup due to their 3-1 win over Loras last year.
The Warhawks got the scoring started quickly, picking up a goal in the first 3 minutes.
Cooper Re (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly) found the back of the net, scoring his sixth goal of the season. Loras was able to answer right back, with a goal in the 17th minute.
With a tied game, UW-Whitewater kept up the attack for the rest of the half. It payed off with two more goals, creating a 3-1 lead at halftime.
Tucker Jahns (Elburn, Ill./Kaneland) scored the first with an assist from
Peyton Nichols (Green Bay, Wis./Bayport). Only minutes later, Nichols would go on to score his own goal with
Hayden Saul (Iowa City, Iowa/Liberty) on the assist, adding to the Warhawk lead.
Down by two, Loras looked to make a second-half comeback on their home field. They found the two goals they needed, tying the game in the 81st minute of a high-offense game. UW-Whitewater attempted 17 shots, with 7 on goal. Loras managed 16 shots with 8 on goal.
Duncan Morgan (Oregon, Wis./Oregon) played the whole 90 minutes in net. The first goal for Loras was the first one Morgan has allowed all season, playing a total of 624 consecutive minutes as keeper without allowing a goal, a new Warhawk record.
The Warhawks will return back home to Fiskum Field on Monday, September 25th, to match-up with Wartburg. Kick-off is set for 7 PM.
