The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater volleyball team, ranked 10th in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association poll, topped No. 7 Washington University in St. Louis 3-1 (25-19, 21-25, 25-22, 25-19) to cap their high-powered home invitational Saturday afternoon.
Five of the six competing teams at the invite were ranked among the top 16 with UWW and No. 3 UW-Oshkosh both going undefeated, 3-0, over the weekend. The other four teams including No. 6 Northwestern-St. Paul, No. 7 WashU, No. 16 Transylvania and Saint Benedict all suffered at least one loss at the invite.
Jenna Weinfurt (Waukesha, Wis./Catholic Memorial) and
Kirsten Anderson (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie) led the Warhawks Saturday adding to phenomenal weekends on the court. Weinfurt hammered down 16 kills adding a pair of aces and an assist block while Anderson pounded down 10 kills without committing an error and adding seven total blocks.
Payton Kuepers (Madison, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) was efficient offensively with nine kills and a single error.
Morgan Jensen (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie) posted 19 digs and fellow defensive specialist
Ally Longden (Pewaukee, Wis./Pewaukee) joined her in double digits with 10.
Aubrie Krzus (Wheaton, Ill./Warrenville South) dished out 38 assists, assisted on six blocks and added 13 digs in the contest.
For the weekend, Anderson posted 33 kills with an attack percentage of .453 in 12 sets played. She added 17 total blocks, an average of 1.42 per set. Weinfurt hammered down over 4.4 kills per set with a total of 53 in three matches. Both performances earned the two Warhawks All-Tournament Team honors.
