The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater got off to a fast start on the road against Beloit. At the end of the game, the momentum paid off, giving the Warhawks a 1-0 victory over the Buccaneers. In the first 20 minutes of the game, the Warhawks took six shots, three on goal, and had six corner-kick opportunities.
At the end of the half, UW-Whitewater had 12 shots with five on goal and ten corners. The Bucs only had one shot on goal and no corner opportunities. The offensive dominance didn't add to the scoreboard in the first half, but the Warhawks had the momentum in their favor.
To start the second half, the Warhawks had four more shots with one on goal and four more corners in the first 15 minutes. In the 78th minute,
Andrew Phillips (Libertyville, IL/Libertyville) placed a kick right past the Beloit keeper, scoring the decisive goal.
Faizan Mohiuddin (South Elgin, Ill./St. Charles North) was credited with the assist on the goal.
Phillips's game-winning goal capped off a dominating performance from the Warhawks. UW-Whitewater outshot Beloit 22(10)-8(4). The Warhawks had 17 corner kick opportunities while not allowing a single corner to the Buccaneers.
Duncan Morgan (Oregon, Wis./Oregon) and
Matthew Vollmer (Lake Zurich, Ill./Lake Zurich) earned the clean sheet. Morgan made three saves in the first half, while Vollmer picked up a save in the second half.
The Warhawks will continue their road stretch, heading to Luther for a double-header match-up with the women's program. The women's game against Luther starts at 5 PM, with the men's game to follow.
