The No. 12 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater volleyball team opened the 2023 campaign with a pair of sweeps on their home court Friday evening. The Warhawks topped Lakeland 25-15, 31-29, 25-14 in match one before defeating Rose-Hulman 25-18, 25-18, 25-11 in the first day of competition in the UW-Whitewater Invitational.
Jenna Weinfurt (Waukesha, Wis./Catholic Memorial) had a stellar match to open her season hammering down 17 kills while hitting .355 in the first match of the day. She added seven digs and a pair of assist blocks.
Kirsten Anderson (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie) posted the high attack percentage, .600, registering the kill on six of her ten attempts without committing a single error. She added three aces, a solo block and two block assists in the contest.
In the backcourt,
Ally Longden (Pewaukee, Wis./Pewaukee) tallied 11 digs while Morgen Jensen added 10.
Aubrie Krzus (Wheaton, Ill./Warrenville South) ran the offense dishing out 35 assists. The freshman setter added 6 kills on 11 attempts with no attack errors in the match.
Weinfurt and Anderson once again led the UWW offense in match two. The outside/middle tandem combined for 26 kills while committing just three errors in the match. Anderson teamed up with other Warhawks at the net on nine blocks as UWW registered 10 total blocks in the contest.
Krzus equaled her assist output from match one adding a pair of aces and four assist blocks in match two. Jensen tallied 16 digs while Weinfurt joined her in double digits with 13.
The Warhawks return to Russell Arena Saturday for two more starting with Edgewood at noon followed by Wheaton at 2.
