The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater baseball team won a pair of games Friday to advance to the title game of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament. The Warhawks topped UW-Stevens Point 9-1 and UW-Oshkosh 12-7.

UW-Whitewater advances to play UW-La Crosse Saturday at noon in the tournament hosted by UW-Stevens Point. If the Warhawks win, they force a second title game that will begin at approximately 3 p.m. The winner claims the league's automatic bid into the NCAA Division III Tournament.

UWW's offense got going right out of the gate Friday plating a pair of runs in each of the first two innings against the top-seeded Pointers. Adam Cootway (DePere, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) opened the scoring with a two-run blast to left center in the first. In the second, Matt Korman (Waterford, Wis./Waterford Union) added a tally in the homerun column with a solo shot and the second Warhawk run came in courtesy of an error.

After three runs in the fourth, Cootway capped the scoring for the Warhawks with his second four-bagger of the day, another two-run bomb that gave UWW a 9-0 lead.

UWSP rounded out the scoring with a solo homerun in the ninth.

Cootway was 2-3 with four RBI and three runs scored to lead the UWW offense.

Cade Berendt (Germantown, Wis./Germantown) pitched a gem allowing just three hits in the complete game on the mound. He struck out eight and walked two in the contest.

In the second game, Matt Scolan (Downers Grove, Ill./South) and Donovan Brandl (Rudolph, Wis./Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln) both homered in the first inning. A two-run blast for the Titans in the top of the third knotted the game but the Warhawks responded in the bottom of the frame.

Brannd singled in one run before Cootway singled in another and Sam Paden's (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville) single to right plated one more. Following an error that brought in another UWW run, a double steal had Paden crossing the plate for a 7-2 advantage after three innings.

Extra base hits were a plenty the rest of the way as Scolan homered again, Korman doubled in a run, DeMeyer joined the homer parade and UW-Oshkosh added two of their own.

Five Warhawks posted multiple hits in the game led by Brandl and Scolan who combined for four hits, four RBI and five runs scored.

Logan Eisenbarth (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) got the start and the win. In seven innings of work, he scattered four hits and struck out five. Max Huseboe (Ripon, Wis./Ripon) and Michael Hilker Jr. (Yorkville, Ill./York) closed out the game for UWW.
