UWW Wins Battle of the Hawks

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater baseball team run-ruled Loras College 14-4 in eight innings at Prucha Field in Miller Stadium Thursday evening.

The Warhawks put up a six-spot on the Duhawks in the bottom of the first frame. UWW cruised plating three runs over the next six innings before posting five runs in the bottom of the fifth to call an end to the contest via run-rule.

UW-Whitewater registered four hits and capitalized on two Loras errors in the first inning. Matt Scolan (Downers Grove, Ill./South) reached on a error by a Duhawk outfielder to open the inning and Sam Vomhof (DeForest, Wis./DeForest) capitalized with a RBI double down the left field line. Nick Paget (New Berlin, Wis./West) singled and stole second while Vomhof came in to score on a passed ball. Later in the inning, Gabe O'Brien (Eau Claire, Wis./North) tagged a two-RBI double down the right field line. Two more came in on an error to give the Warhawks a 6-0 lead after one inning.

UWW posted at least one hit in all but one frame the rest of the way leading to the win.

Vomhof, Alex Najera (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North), Joe Gorden (Fox Lake, Ill./Grant Community) and Darryl Jackson (Milwaukee, Wis./Rufus King) all tallied multiple hits in the game. Gorden was 4-5 at the plate with four RBI and three runs scored to lead the Warhawk offense. Najera was 3-4 with a RBI and three runs scored.

On the mound, Max Huseboe (Ripon, Wis./Ripon) was tapped for the start and picked up the win. He struck out eight while scatting six hits across five innings of work to move to 3-0 on the season. Danny Hopper (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) and Michael Hilker Jr. (Yorkville, Ill./York) closed out the final three innings combining for seven strikeouts while allowing just one hit.
