The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater baseball team blasted 40 hits and scored 31 runs en route to two wins at UW-Stout Saturday. The Warhawks won the opener 12-3 before blanking the Blue Devils in a 19-0, seven-inning win in the nightcap.
Due to forecasted inclement weather Sunday, the final two games of the series initially scheduled for Sunday afternoon have been pushed to Monday starting at 1 p.m. in Menomonie.
UW-Whitewater took the lead in the top of the first on a
Adam Cootway (DePere, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) RBI single to centerfield. The Blue Devils would knot the game in the bottom of the frame but UWW responded with four runs in the fourth and a five-spot in the sixth.
UWW's four in the fourth were all courtesy of the long ball and two sets of back-to-back jacks. Cootway homered to right with one out and
Sam Paden (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville) followed with a four-bagger to left. With two out,
Matt Korman (Waterford, Wis./Waterford Union) blasted one over the wall in right and
Darryl Jackson (Milwaukee, Wis./Rufus King) followed with a homer to center. The Warhawks never looked back cruising to the 12-3 final.
Korman led UWW at the plate going 4-5 with two RBI and a run scored. Cootway was a perfect 3-3 with 3 RBI, 2 runs scored and 2 walks.
Max Huseboe (Ripon, Wis./Ripon) got the start and picked up the win. He struck out four and allowed three runs in 5.2 innings of work.
UW-Whitewater posted runs in all but one frame and registered multiple runs in all but two innings of game two.
The hit parade was backed up by solid pitching as
Cade Berendt (Germantown, Wis./Germantown),
Logan Eisenbarth (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) and
Danny Hopper (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) combined for the shutout. The three Warhawk hurlers allowed just two hits in the contest while combining for 10 strikeouts. Eisenbarth was credited with the win to move to 2-2 on the season.
At the plate, Paden had a monster game going 5-5 with five RBI and a run scored. Korman was 2-5 with a pair of homeruns and four RBI in the game.
