The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater baseball team run-ruled Grinnell 13-2 in seven innings in Pensacola, Florida Wednesday afternoon.
The Warhawks blasted 15 hits while the UWW pitchers combined to scatter four hits across the seven innings of work.
UW-Whitewater scored in four of their six offensive frames in the contest bolstered by a six-run fourth inning.
David Rubin (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) opened the scoring in the fourth with a sacrifice fly that gave UWW a 4-1 lead.
Nick Paget (New Berlin, Wis./West) and
Donovan Brandl (Rudolph, Wis./Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln) notched back-to-back RBI singles.
Adam Cootway (DePere, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) drew a walk and
Alex Najera (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North) capitalized with a single that plated one more.
Sam Paden (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville) wrapped up the scoring in the frame with a single to the right side that brought in a pair and gave the Warhawks a 9-1 advantage.
UWW added four more in the fifth on five hits.
Matt Scolan (Downers Grove, Ill./South), Brandl and Najera all had three hits in the game to lead the Warhawk offense.
Sava Dupor (Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South) was tapped for the start and picked up the win on the mound. In four innings of work, Dupor fanned eight without issuing a walk while allowing just two hits.
