The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater baseball team blanked Grinnell for eight innings en route to a 5-1 victory Tuesday in Pensacola, Florida.
Sam Vomhof (DeForest, Wis./DeForest) opened the scoring with a RBI single to center field that brought in
Alex Najera (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North) in the third.
UWW followed with a run scored off a Pioneer miscue in the fourth and then added two more in the fifth.
Adam Cootway (DePere, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) doubled to right field to drive in the pair in the bottom of the fifth.
He struck again in the seventh with a RBI sacrifice fly to right field to give the Warhawks a 5-0 lead.
Grinnell plated their only run in the top of the ninth.
UW-Whitewater registered four hits in the game with Cootway leading the offense with three RBI on a 1-1 day at the plate.
Trey Bretl (Marinette, Wis./Marinette) picked up his first win on the mound this season scattering three hits across seven innings of work.
