Warhawk Baseball Run-Rules Grinnell

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater baseball team run-ruled Grinnell College 14-4 in seven innings Sunday evening in the Studer's Blue Wahoo Challenge in Pensacola, Florida. The Warhawks improve to 4-0 with the win.

UWW put up 10 runs in the first two innings including registering an eight-run second inning. Gabe O'Brien (Eau Claire, Wis./North) opened the scoring with a RBI single to right field. Jacob DeMeyer (Rhinelander, Wis./Rhinelander) plated the second run of the frame in the same fashion.

The Pioneers responded with a pair of runs to tie the game in the top of the second before the Warhawks put up the eight-spot. The eight runs were scored via a Matt Scolan (Downers Grove, Ill./South) two-RBI triple, a Sam Vomhof (DeForest, Wis./DeForest) RBI single, two-RBI hit-by-pitches, an RBI walk and finally a RBI single from Bennett Frazer (Oconto, Wis./Oconto)

O'Brien continued the onslaught in the bottom of the third with a homer to right field.

Grinnell brought in two more over the next two innings to make it 11-4 after 4.5 innings. DeMeyer pushed the gap to eight with a RBI double to left in the bottom of the fifth. Matt Korman (Waterford, Wis./Waterford Union) had an RBI groundout in the sixth to make it 13-4. In the bottom of the seventh, DeMeyer blasted a leadoff homerun to left field to end the game via the run-rule.

DeMeyer was a perfect 4-4 at the plate with four RBi and two runs scored. For the game, the Warhawks tallied four doubles, a triple and two four-baggers.

Sam Paden (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville) picked up the win on the mound for UWW scattering four hits across four innings of work. Donovan Brandl (Rudolph, Wis./Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln) closed out the game for the Warhawks.
