The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater baseball team blasted 20 hits in a 23-4, seven-inning run-rule over Carroll Friday morning.
The Pioneers struck first with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning. The Warhawks came back with four in the bottom of the frame with a RBI hit-by-pitch, a RBI walk and a two-RBI single from
Ryan Norton (Fond du Lac, Wis./Fond du Lac) to make it 4-2 UWW.
Carroll added two more to knot the game at 4 in the top of the second. UW-Whitewater responded with a 10-spot in the third as the flood gates opened. UWW went on to score two in each of the next two innings.
The Warhawks capped the scoring with a five-run sixth bolstered by an inside the park homerun from
Adam Cootway (DePere, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) that plated a pair for the final.
Max Huseboe (Ripon, Wis./Ripon) picked up his first win of the season in three innings of work.
Eleven Warhawks registered hits in the game led by
Jacob DeMeyer's (Rhinelander, Wis./Rhinelander) 3-for-3 performance at the plate.
