The No. 8 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater baseball team topped Edgewood 8-5 Thursday morning in Pensacola, Fla. in the team's second game of the Studer's Blue Wahoo Challenge. 

The Warhawks plated runs in six innings Thursday, blasting eight hits along the way. 

Matt Scolan (Downers Grove, Ill./South) scored the first run of the game for UWW, crossing the plate on a ground ball. In the bottom of the second, Bennett Frazer (Oconto, Wis./Oconto) plated another on a RBI single to center field to give the Warhawks a 2-0 lead. 

Edgewood got on the board with a single run in the top fo the third, but UW-Whitewater responded in their half of the inning bringing in two more on a pair of doubles, one from Gabe O'Brien (Eau Claire, Wis./North) and the other off the bat of Adam Cootway (DePere, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran). 

EC plated one in the fourth while the Warhawks added two more in the bottom half before extending the margin to 7-2 in the bottom of the fifth. 

The Eagles narrowed the gap with a pair of runs in the top of the sixth, but the Warhawks closed out the scoring on a Ryan Norton (Fond du Lac, Wis./Fond du Lac) RBI single to left in the bottom of the seventh for the 8-5 final. 

Sam Vomhof (DeForest, Wis./DeForest) and Cootway led UWW with three hits each. O'Brien went 2-for-4 with a double, his third in two games. 

Joey Pettit (West Bend, Wis./Marquette University HS) picked up the win in his first start of the season fanning five while allowing four hits in five innings of work. Donovan Brandl (Rudolph, Wis./Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln) and Logan Eisenbarth (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) combined to close the game on the mound for the Warhawks.
