The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's and women's track and field programs competed at the Eagle Open hosted by UW-La Crosse Friday night. The Warhawk men finished third while the women were sixth, each in a field of eight teams.
Gracie Holland (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield) broke her own school record in the pole vault registering a height of 4.00 meters, the best in Division III by over five inches. Below is a recap of the meet in event order.
In the mile run,
Landen Bratt (Waukesha, Wis./West) and
Tommy Conklin (West Bend, Wis./East) added points to the team total finishing 6th and 7th respectively led by Bratt's 4:24.32. On the women's side,
Miranda McNally (Downers Grove, Ill./North) was eighth with a clocking of 5:57.05.
Marlon Cystrunk (DeForest, Wis./DeForest) was the runnerup in the 60-meter hurdles crossing the line in 8.23 while teammate
Tamir Thomas (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) was close behind in third (8.52).
Adam Kunny (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) added a bronze in the 60-meter dash posting a time of 6.93 while
Carsen Rindt (Appleton, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) was sixth in the event.
Luke Zanis (St. Charles, Ill./North) and
Kobe Chandler (Beloit, WI/Memorial) represented the UWW men in the 400 with top eight finishes. Zanis registered a time of 50.34 while Chandler's 50.36 was good for sixth.
Roxanne Temple (Ingleside, Ill./Grant Community) added points to the women's total with a clocking of 2:25.41 in the 800, good for a seventh place finish.
Three Warhawk men finished among the top eight in the 3000 led by
Alex Metko's (Brillion, Wis./Brillion) 8:50.15 in sixth. He was followed by
Chris Allen (Downers Grove, Ill./North) and
Jonah Block (Whitefish Bay, Wis./Whitefish Bay) in the scoring contingent.
Both 4x400 relay squads added four points to the team totals. On the men's side,
Drew Davey (Elkhorn, WI/), Conklin,
Alex White (West Allis, WI/Nathan Hale) and Tucker Jonshon combined for a time of 3:44.87 while the women's time of 4:36.07 was secured by Temple,
Emma Shingledecker (New Berlin, Wis./West),
Kristan Larson (Rio, Wis./Rio) and
Kayleigh Thomas (Dixon, Ill./Dixon).
In the field events,
Josh Krystosek (Palmyra, Wis./Palmyra-Eagle) was the high jump runnerup with a height of 1.96 meters.
Ty Jahnke (Watertown, Wis./Watertown) was fifth.
Kiara McKowen (New Berlin, Wis./Eisenhower) finished sixth on the women's side with a jump of 1.53 meters. She edged out
Rebecca Lawrence (Rhinelander, Wis./Rhinelander) on jumps after posting the same height.
Chris Bitz (Brookfield, Wis./East) added fourth place points to the team total with a pole vault height of 4.51 meters. Holland's program record in the event was tops at the meet and is the best in Division III. Her 4.00 meters is also a facility record.
Carleen Snow (Rio, Wis./DeForest) finished seventh in the event.
In the long jump,
Christian Crump (Kenosha, Wis./Bradford) tied for eighth with a leap of 6.55 meters. The triple jump crown was captured by Shelvin Garrett with a leap of 14.41 meters while
Brayden Zettle (Monroe, Wis./Monroe) secured bronze with a jump of 14.27 meters.
Rileigh Elgas (Janesville, Wis./Craig) added seventh place points to the women's total in the event.
Kenni Czarnecki (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) finished eighth in the women's shot put with a toss of 11.84 meters. She added a fourth place finish in the weight throw with a heave of 16.82 meters.
