Three Warhawks led the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater wrestling team at the Pointer Open hosted by UW-Stevens Point Saturday. Scott Busse (Chicago, Ill./Lake Zurich), Brayden Peet (Dekalb, Ill./Sycamore) and Gavin Kohel (River Falls, Wis./River Falls) all placed third to lead a large contingent of Warhawks competing in the open.

At 149 pounds, Busse cruised into the quarterfinal with back-to-back major decisions against wrestlers from Aurora and North Central. He dropped his quarterfinal bout to an unattached wrestler from Wisconsin before taking down three straight opponents with a final win by medical forfeit to take third.. 

Peet advanced to the semifinal at 165 pounds winning three straight before falling to an unattached Wisconsin wrestler. He bounced back with a pin and decision over two UW-Parkside wrestlers to finish third. 

Kohel won his first bout at 174 pounds after receiving an opening round bye. After dropping his quarterfinal match to a Luther wrestler, Kohel won three consecutive. He took down Luic Cruces (Luther), who had defeated him in the quarterfinal by 9-6 decision, in the battle for third by 5-1 decision to claim bronze. 

Evan Danowski (Waterford, Wis./Waterford Union) added a top six finish for the Warhawks. He won his first three bouts of the day to secure a spot in the semifinal. He fell in his last three to finish in sixth place.
