The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater wrestling team competed in the high-powered Luther Open Saturday. Scott Busse (Chicago, Ill./Lake Zurich) and Justin Fortugno (Armonk, N.Y./Byram Hills) won their respective brackets while Jermaine Butler finished as a runner-up. The tournament featured an Elite and Silver bracket at each weight class. 

Fortugno was phenomenal in the 141-pound elite bracket posting a perfect 5-0 record for the title. He tallied a technical fall and major decision before taking down a Division II wrestler from Minnesota State Mankato in the semifinal by 8-4 decision. In the title bout, he defeated Stevens Tech's Nico Diaz by 8-6 decision. 

Busse claimed gold cruising through the 149-pound silver bracket with a 4-0 record that including an exciting sudden victory win over a wrestler from St. Cloud State and a decision over Iowa's Koye Grebel in the championship bout. 

Jermaine Butler finished as the runner-up in the 157-pound silver bracket. He went 4-0 to secure his spot in the title bout where he fell to Iowa's Isaiah Fenton by 7-2 decision. In his four wins on the day, Butler posted a technical fall and major decision. 

Dominik Mallinder (Roselle, Ill./Lake Park) finished sixth in the elite 133 bracket. His lone losses on the day came to Division I opponents from Iowa. In four victories Saturday, Mallinder recorded a pair of technical falls and a pin in 3:30. 

Mikey DiBenedetto (Roselle, Ill./Glenbard North) opened his day in the 141-pound silver bracket with back-to-back falls. He posted three technical falls in his other three wins on the day to finish fifth in the bracket. 

In total, the Warhawks posted a record of 45-34 on the mats Saturday. Of those 45 victories, UWW recorded 8 falls, 11 technical falls and 8 major decisions.
