Warhawk Volleyball Bounces Back with Win over NCC

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater volleyball team topped North Central College 3-1 (25-18, 25-23, 18-25, 25-18) Saturday on the road.

The Warhawks were firing on all cylinders in the first set hitting .429 with 15 kills in 28 attempts. UWW ended up hitting .245 for the match while holding the Cardinals to .113 offensively. UW-Whitewater, the best blocking team in the nation, out-blocked NCC 12-4 in the contest.

Individually, outside hitter Jenna Weinfurt (Waukesha, Wis./Catholic Memorial) and middle hitter Kirsten Anderson (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie) paced the Warhawks. Weinfurt hammered down 16 kills while Anderson added 12. Defensively at the net, the duo combined for nine blocks.

Three Warhawks tallied double digit digs led by Morgan Jensen's (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie) 19. Ally Longden (Pewaukee, Wis./Pewaukee) and Aubrie Krzus (Wheaton, Ill./Warrenville South) added 11 each while Krzus posted 38 assists in the match.

UW-Whitewater will have a week off before returning to Russell Arena for the regular season finale November 4. The match against UW-River Falls is slated for 7 pm. UW-Oshkosh (6-0) has secured at least a share of the regular season title as the Warhawks (5-1) have a hold of second place in the standings. UW-Platteville (4-2), UW-Stevens Point (3-3), UW-River Falls (3-3) and UW-Eau Claire (2-4) round out the top six in the league standings.
