The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's soccer team answered UW-Stevens Point's first goal quickly, but were unable to respond to the next two, falling 3-1 on Saturday night.
UW-Stevens Point opened up scoring quickly, placing a shot from about 30 yards out into the back of the net to open up scoring 1-0.Â
The Warhawks answered back quickly, finding their own goal on a play from
Megan Howard (Lakeland, Minn./Stillwater Area) and
Emily Thill (West Chicago, Ill./St. Francis). Howard placed a nice cross for Thill to place past the keeper.
The Pointers retook the lead late in the first half, after a chip shot made it right over the goalie's fingers.Â
The Warhawks looked to tie the game up before half, retaining possession for a majority of the final two minutes in the first half. Unable to find a goal, the Warhawks entered the half down 2-1.
In the second half, UW-Stevens Point added on a bracer goal after the ball spun into the net past the keeper off a corner kick.
UW-Whitewater put three shots on goal in the second half, but were unable to find the answer to the deficit.Â
UW-Stevens Point took a total of six shots on goal throughout the game, the Warhawks put on five. UW-Whitewater had four corner opportunities and UW-Stevens Point had two, one leading to a goal.Â
Jude Dobrinska (Milwaukee, Wis./Ronald Reagan College Prep) made three saves, playing the whole 90 minutes.
Emily Thill (West Chicago, Ill./St. Francis) took two shots on goal, with Brittany Ellinghouse,
Addie Decker (Brookfield, Wis/Brookfield Central), and
Belle Blauert (Nowthen, Minn./Anoka) each recording one.
The Warhawk women's soccer team will head out on the road for their next match. They play UW-Platteville for a WIAC conference game on Wednesday, October 18th. The kickoff is set for 5 PM.
