Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Warhawks Score Early, Titans Score Late in 1-1 Draw

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater held the lead for a majority of the game, but a Illinois Wesleyan goal in the final minutes meant a draw on Wednesday night in Bloomington.

The Warhawks struck first, with Emily Thill (West Chicago, Ill./St. Francis) placing a through pass to find Megan Howard (Lakeland, Minn./Stillwater Area) on the right side. Howard placed the shot across the goal, giving the Warhawks a one goal lead only three minutes into the game.

The Warhawks kept up the offensive pressure throughout the first half, recording seven shots (five on goal) and four corners. The Titans only had one shot on goal and no corner opportunities in the first half. Emma Hager (Arlington Heights, Ill./Hersey) made the one save in the first half, to go with two in the second half.

The Warhawks maintained their lead for much of the second half. But Illinois Wesleyan picked up the offensive attack looking to score their own goal. The Titans took nine shots in the second half (three on goal) and had four corner opportunities. UW-Whitewater had four shots (none on goal) and no corner kicks.

Illinois Wesleyan found the tying goal with 1:30 left on the clock. Neither team was able to find the game-winning goal in the last 90 seconds, resulting in the draw.

The Warhawks return home this Saturday to take on WIAC-opponent UW-Stevens Point. This game marks the women's soccer annual Play for a Cause Day.

This year the team decided to raise awareness for is Alzheimer's. All proceeds they raise will be donated to Fairhaven Senior Services- a local assisted living center in Whitewater. Throughout the past years the women's soccer team has been able to work with many residents and made relationships with a lot of them! The donation will be given to their Memory Care Unit Hearthstone specifically for supplies for activities/games/entertainment to help engage the minds of residents living with Alzheimer's. It will also provide more money to put towards more overall care towards these residents.

If you are able- the women's soccer team would love if you could donate to this cause.
