Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

UW-Whitewater Unable to Hold Off Pioneer's Offense

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's soccer team could not find the momentum against UW-Platteville on Tuesday night.

UW-Platteville struck first late into the first half off a corner kick. The Pioneers added another goal after a save by the Warhawks keeper bounced off a Warhawk defender into the net.

At the break, the Warhawks looked to bounce back in the 2-0 deficit. But UW-Platteville used offense as their defense and added on two more goals to make it 4-0.

The Pioneers outshot UW-Whitewater 23 to 6 with 12 shots on goal to the Warhawks three. UW-Platteville also had nine corner opportunities to the Warhawks four.

Duncan Morgan (Oregon, Wis./Oregon) made seven saves in his 61 minutes of action, Matthew Vollmer (Lake Zurich, Ill./Lake Zurich) made two saves in 29 minutes.

The shots on goal from the Warhawks came from Peyton Nichols (Green Bay, Wis./Bayport) with two and Fionnbharr Hartnett (Oconomowoc, Wis./Oconomowoc).

With this win, the Pioneers take the Shaymus Guinn Cup for the first time in 5 years.

The Shaymus Guinn Cup is named in honor of the son of Warhawk head coach Tony Guinn, who passed away in 2012 at the age of 11 after a five-year battle with pediatric cancer and chemotherapy-induced A.L.L. leukemia.

The Shaymus Guinn Foundation benefits awareness for pediatric cancer and assists families coping with the disease. Visit the foundation's web page to learn more.

The Warhawks will look to bounce after a long break. The men's soccer team will return home for their last two games of the season. October 22nd, they take on Concordia (Minn.), and on October 25th, they take on Knox College for Senior Night.
