Shelton Ties Fastest 60 Time in Nation

Warhawk sprinter Tina Shelton (Janesville, Wis./Parker) set the program record in the 60-meter dash for the second time in as many weeks and tied the fastest time so far in Division III this season to lead UWW to a second place finish at the Leonard "Squig" Converse Invitational Saturday.

Shelton set a blistering pace crossing the line in 7.64 in the prelims of the 60 Saturday. She matched that time to finish first in the finals of the event. Her clocking breaks the program record she set last weekend, matches the Kachel Fieldhouse record held by a sprinter from UW-La Crosse (2020), and ties the fastest time recorded by a Division III runner in the nation so far this season. Teammate Jacqueline Kornowski (Green Bay, Wis./Preble) added fourth-place points to the team total in the event.

Ari De La Cerda (Milwaukee, Wis./Pewaukee) added a second gold for UWW Saturday. She led the pack by over 18 seconds to cross the finish line in 10:22.01 in the 3,000 meter run.

Paige Fassbender (Slinger, Wis./Slinger) added a runner-up finish in the 800 with a clocking of 2:18.39. Katie Erb (Winnebago, Ill./Winnebago) was seventh in the event. Kornowski and Aaliyah Taylor (Milwaukee, WI/King) added points to the team total by finishing among the top eight in the 200 led by Kornowski's fourth-place time of 27.17.

Katie McNamara (Geneva, Ill./Geneva) (1:01.88) and Morgan Amend (Markesan, Wis./Markesan) (10.74) finished in sixth in the 400 and 60 hurdles respectively to wrap up the individual top eight finishers on the track.

UWW's 4x400 relay combination crossed the line fourth with a time of 4:18.57.

The weight throw and pole vault added the most points to the team total for the Warhawk women. Rialey Martin (Jefferson, Wis./Jefferson) registered a heave of 14.98 meters in the weight throw to finish as the runner-up. Kenni Czarnecki (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) was fourth while Mikayla Madlena (Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH) finished fifth in the event. Gracie Holland (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield) posted the second-best height in the pole vault at 3.74 meters. Margaret Helbig (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park and River Forest) finished seventh at 3.29 meters.

In the men's heptathlon that wrapped up Saturday, Jack McGinn totaled 4,624 points for third.
