The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater was represented by three women's tennis players Sunday in late rounds of singles competition at the ITA Midwest Regional hosted by Gustavus Adolphus College.
Autumn Bruno (Milwaukee, Wis./Greenfield Whitnall),
Gianna Nikoleit (Elmhurst, Ill./York Community) and
Cassie Lee (Downers Grove, Ill./Timothy Christian) all took to the court Sunday with Bruno advancing to the semifinals.

Bruno, the No. 3 seed, advanced to the semifinals for the second consecutive season. Boasting a 3-0 record heading into Sunday, Bruno topped Alli Laux of Gustavus Adolphus 6-3, 6-3 in her quarterfinal matchup to earn a spot in the semifinal.

In a rematch of last season's semifinal, Bruno met top-seeded Sabrina Tang of Grinnell. Bruno took an early lead winning the first set 6-3 before falling in the second and third 6-2.

Nikoleit, the No. 5 seed, took the overall No. 2 seed Kelsey Dorr of St. Kate's to three sets in her quarterfinal match. Dorr captured the first set 6-1 before Nikoleit evened the match with a 6-2 victory in set two. Dorr won the third 6-2 to advance.

Lee, seeded sixth, lost her quarterfinal matchup with Tang 6-1, 6-3 to go 3-1 on the weekend.

The Warhawks will be back in action Wednesday in dual meet action at UW-Oshkosh before hosting UW-Stevens Point Tuesday, October 4.

After two days of competition, Bruno, Lee, and Nikoleit are all 3-0 after receiving first round byes to advance to the quarterfinal round which is scheduled for Sunday.
The ITA Midwest Regional Championship began with early singles competition Friday followed by more singles and doubles competition Saturday. The final singles and doubles matches are slated to be completed Sunday.

The singles and doubles champions from this regional competition will advance to the ITA National Small College Championships. Those championships are comprised of eight regional champions and eight runners-up or at-large selections from NCAA Division II and III, NAIA, and junior/community colleges.

Kasey Schlict opened with a bye in singles competition and advanced to the round of 16 posting a 2-1 record at the regional.
Kellie Ha (Palatine, Ill./Fremd) and
Faith Nosek (Oconomowoc, Wis./BVA) each advanced to the round of 32 winning their first two singles matches of the competition.

Bethany Marshall (Cary, Ill./Cary-Grove),
Courtney Day (Oshkosh, Wis./North), and
Molly Asfeld (Waukesha, Wis./West) all went 1-1 while Mackenzie Lindow dropped her first singles match of the competition.

In doubles competition that started Saturday, Nikoleit and Day teamed up for a pair of wins before falling to a combination from Grinnell. Bruno and Lee received a first-round bye and won their second match before they were forced to retire in their second outing due to an injury.

Gracie Ha (Palatine, Ill./Fremd) went 1-1 with a win over a UW-EC squad.
Kellie Ha (Palatine, Ill./Fremd) and Schlict had a bye through the opening round but fell to a duo from GAC in their second match.
