SAINT PETER, MN -- The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's tennis team began competition at the Midwest ITA Regional hosted by Gustavus Adolphus on Friday. In addition to the matches in the Midwest Regional, the Warhawks also competed in the Gustie Invite.

Ashley Adkisson (Lincolnshire, Ill./Stevenson) won her first match of the day in the ITA singles bracket, defeating Niki Manojlovic from Carthage. In the second round, Adkisson faced conference opponent Shelby Roth from UW-La Crosse, one of the top seeds of the tournament. Adkisson fell 2-6, 3-6 in the round of 64. 

Abigail Weaver (Wakarusa, Ind./Mishawaka Marian) was the other Warhawk to advance. Weaver received a bye in the first round as the 2nd overall seed. In the second round match, Weaver defeated Aliandra Hagness from Coe in straight sets without dropping a game. Weaver faced Jordin Popp from Concordia-Wisconsin in the third round. 

On the doubles side of the ITA Regional, Abigail Weaver (Wakarusa, Ind./Mishawaka Marian) & Ava Andrea, the fourth overall seed advanced to the round of 16 on Saturday. The pair received a bye in the first round before defeating Groundwater/Kohn from Grinnell, 8-5. 

In the Gustie Invite, the Warhaws doubles pair Ella Alcalde (Burlington, Wis./Westosha Central) and Julia Nill (Thiensville, Wis./Homestead) took their first match 8-1 to advance to the quarterfinal round.

The Warhawks will continue the ITA Regionals & Gustie Invite tomorrow in Saint Peter.
