The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's soccer team wrapped up play in the "W" Challenge with a 1-1 tie with Washington University in St. Louis Sunday.
In the first matchup of the "W" Challenge hosted by the Warhawks at Fiskum Field, WashU defeated Rhodes College. UW-Whitewater followed with a 4-0 win over DePauw Saturday to set the Sunday schedule. DePauw and Rhodes battled to a 1-1 draw in the first contest Sunday.
The second contest of the day was a defensive battle between the Warhawks and Bears with just three shots between the two teams in the first half.
The second half was a different story with more offense being generated on both sides. UW-Whitewater was the first to capitalize breaking the stalemate on an
Emily Thill (West Chicago, Ill./St. Francis) goal in the 78th minute.
Sarah Clancy (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) registered the assist.
Ten minutes later, in the 88th, WashU tallied the equalizer on a Maggie Brett goal.
In the final minute of the contest,
Allie Prigge (Palatine, Ill./Fremd) put a shot on frame but the Bears' keeper turned it away to seal the draw.
The WashU goal was their lone shot on frame in the contest. The Warhawks put four shots on target in the game, three that were saved by the Bears' goalie.
