The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's tennis team hosted the annual Warhawk Fall Invite Friday and Saturday, September 9-10. UW-W won four of the nine flights in the invite.
Luke VanDonslear (Marion, Iowa/Linn Mar) captured the title at No. 2 singles. He registered a 6-4, 6-0 win over Ruben Giogio (Cardinal Stritch) before defeating Zac Matuszak (Lewis) 6-4, 6-1 to advance to the title match. VanDonslear won the championship 6-3, 6-0 over Anres Mauricio Saavedra (CSU).
Tyler Nelson (Waunakee, Wis./Waunakee) also captured a singles title in the No. 3 draw. He topped Jasper Schaadt (CSU) 6-2, 6-7(6), 10-5 in his first singles match before defeating Lake Forest's Ian Vilardi 6-3, 6-2. Nelson won the title with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Pedja Trifunovic of Lewis.
Payton Adkisson (Lincolnshire, Ill./Stevenson) also competed at No. 3 singles for UW-W taking seventh.
At No. 6 singles,
Chase Lindwall (Cottage Grove, Wis./Monona Grove) went 3-0 for the title. He opened with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Robert Cercos (CSU) followed by a 6-1, 6-0 win over Alec Nissen (LFC). The title match went in favor of Lindwall, 3-6, 6-3, 10-6 over Grant Miller (Lewis). Parker Sprague also competed in the flight going 2-1 on the day to finish third.
The Warhawks' fourth title came at No. 3 doubles. UW-W's combination of
Ridley Aranda (Bayside, Wis./Nicolet) and
Josh Baldwin (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie) went 3-0 including a 6-0 win over the St. Francis pair in the semifinal and 6-2 win over teammates Lindwall and Parker Sprague in the title match.
At No. 2 singles,
Andrew Dumbauld () advanced to the semifinal before falling to a Giovanni Vitali 6-3, 6-1 to finish as the runner-up. Baldwin also competed in the flight going 2-1 to win the consolation final.
Aranda won his first two matches at No. 5 singles before finishing in second to CSU's Daniel Ezcurra.
Josh Guillermo (Muskego, Wis./Marquette University HS) defeated Eduardo Manuitt (LFC) 6-4, 6-3 to take third in the flight.
VanDonslear was joined by
John Zakowski (Green Bay, Wis./Southwest) in the No. 1 doubles draw. The duo topped a pair from Lewis 6-2 before defeating CSU's combo 6-4. VanDonslear/Zakowki fell in the final to a combination from Lewis 7-6(3). Nelson and Lindwall dropped the first match in the flight and finished second on the consolation side of the bracket.
Guillermo and Adkisson joined up for No. 2 doubles play. The pairing defeated a duo from Lake Forest 6-2 before dropping their second match of the day 6-2. Guillermo/Adkisson defeated a Cardinal Stritch team 7-5 to take third.
Zakowski and
Cole Lindwall (Cottage Grove, Wis./Monona Grove) both competed in the No. 1 singles bracket. Zakowski won his first match 6-7(6), 6-4, 10-7 over Danail Banov (CSU) before falling to the eventual champion, Boris Reckow (Lewis) 6-5. He finished fourth in the flight. Lindwall went on to win the consolation final after falling to Omer Gorun (Lewis) 6-2, 6-3 in his first match of singles play.
