The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's tennis team put up a strong fight against one of the nation's top programs Saturday in a 7-2 loss at No. 6 Washington-St. Louis.
 
The Warhawks (16-2 overall) closed out doubles with a victory as Alex Gray (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) and John Zakowski (Green Bay, Wis./Southwest) combined at No. 1 singles to knock off Abhi Ramireddy and Daniel Li by an 8-7 (3) score. Ramireddy and Li are ranked fourth in the Central Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, while Gray and Zakowski are seventh.
 
Brendan Pietila (Sussex, Wis./Arrowhead) highlighted singles play for UW-Whitewater, posting a 7-6, 0-6, 1-0 (10-7) triumph at the No. 6 position. Rory Calabria (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) and Alex Gray (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) took at least three games in each of their sets at the third and fourth slots, respectively.
 
The Warhawks visit UW-La Crosse for a New Jersey Athletic Conference West Division dual Friday at 3 p.m.
