Getting To Know The Warhawks – Morgan Smarzinski, Women’s Track and Field

Morgan Smarzinski (Appleton, Wis./Kimberly) of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's track and field team is featured in the latest edition of Getting To Know The Warhawks Presented by UW Credit Union.
 
Smarzinski most recently raced at the UW-Platteville Invitational on April 15, running a time of 6:23.98 in the 1,500-meter run. She competed primarily in the 1-mile run during the indoor season, posting a season-best time of 6:42.39 in the event at North Central's Slick Invite on Feb. 18. Smarzinski also ran during the cross country season in the fall, tallying a career-best time of 27:33.9 in the 6-kilometer race at the 2021 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships.
 
During the shortened 2021 season, Smarzinski tallied personal records at back-to-back indoor meets. She ran a 2:49.31 in the 800-meter run and a 6:18.66 in the 1-mile run.
 
As a freshman in 2019, Smarzinski was named the team's co-winner of the GPA of the Year Award. She ran a career-best 5:36.40 in the 1,500-meter run that outdoor season.
 
A three-year member of the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll, Smarzinski is majoring in communication sciences and disorders with a minor in psychology and is a member of UW-Whitewater's National Student Speech Language Hearing Association chapter. She has been on the UW-Whitewater Dean's List seven times and has served as a tutor for the school's Center for Students with Disabilities (CSD).
 
Smarzinski presented at the 2021 UW System Symposium for Undergraduate Research, Scholarly and Creative Activity. Her work included research on voice-related motor and somatosensory cortical responses to rapid perturbations in airway resistance. She also presented the project "Vaping On Campus and in the Community – What Are They Doing and Why?" on campus in the spring of 2019.
