The No. 33 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's tennis team was defeated 5-4 against Grinnell (Iowa) on the second day of the Midwest Invitational at Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison.
The Warhawks (16-4) dropped two of three matches in doubles play.
Molly Rueth (Wheaton, Ill./Glenbard West) and
Kellie Ha (Palatine, Ill./Fremd) posted an 8-5 victory at No. 2, but the Pioneers (16-5) took the remaining two matches for a 2-1 lead.
UW-Whitewater jumped in front by a 3-2 margin after wins by
Cassie Lee (Downers Grove, Ill./Timothy Christian) and
Gianna Nikoleit (Elmhurst, Ill./York Community) at the Nos. 2 and 3 spots, respectively. Nikoleit was first on the board with a 6-1, 6-3 triumph and Lee followed with a 6-3, 6-2 win.
Grinnell earned the three decisions to clinch the match. Ha gave the Warhawks their fourth point of the match with a 7-6 (4), 1-6, 1-0 (13-11) victory at the fifth position.
