Patzka, Holland Break School Records as Warhawks Compete at UWP

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's and women's track and field teams continued their outdoor season Friday at the UW-Platteville Invitational.
 
The Warhawk men finished second out of 11 teams with 98 team points, while the women placed seventh with 50 points.
 
Gracie Holland (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield) highlighted the women's side by breaking her own outdoor school record in the pole vault. Her height of 12-06.00 (3.81 meters) currently ranks among the top five in the nation.
 
Tina Shelton (Janesville, Wis./Parker) finished as runner-up in the 100-meter dash with her time of 12.22, while Paige Fassbender (Slinger, Wis./Slinger) placed third in the 800-meter run with a season-best 2:19.24.
 
Holland, Shelton, Kylie Jacobs (Watertown, Wis./Watertown) and Jacqueline Kornowski (Green Bay, Wis./Preble) combined for a time of 50.10 in the 4x100-meter relay, good for third at the meet.
 
Christian Patzka (Black Earth, Wis./Wisconsin Heights) led the men by winning the 5,000-meter run with a program record 14:15.21, topping Brian Butzler's 11-year-old mark by more than eight seconds. Patzka was closely followed by David Fassbender (Slinger, Wis./Slinger), who ran the fastest outdoor time of his career with a 14:18.13 to finish second. Gunner Schlender (Brillion, Wis./Brillion) crossed the finish line in 14:24.51, good for ninth overall. All three runners entered the top 15 in NCAA Division III and the top five outdoor times in program history with their performances.
 
Brayden Zettle (Monroe, Wis./Monroe) entered the top 10 in the nation in the triple jump with a personal record distance of 46-11.75 (14.32 meters), good for first place in the event. Daustin Martin (Jefferson, Wis./Jefferson) improved his career best mark in the hammer throw with a 180-04 (54.96 meters), which ranks among the top 15 in Division III.
 
Other top individual finishers for the men included D'Angelo Dear (Green Bay, Wis./Preble), who placed third in the 100-meter dash in 10.71 seconds, Justin Krause (Ixonia, Wis./Pewaukee), who clocked a season-best 1:56.71 in the 800-meter run, Tamir Thomas (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls), who posted a 15.11 to finish third in the 110-meter hurdles, and Chris Bitz (Brookfield, Wis./East), who tied for third in the pole vault with an outdoor season-best height of 14-10.50 (4.53 meters).
 
UW-Whitewater will host the Warhawk Invite next Friday and Saturday, April 22-23, at Rex Foster Track.
