The No. 33 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's tennis team finished with a strong singles performance Saturday in a 6-3 victory at College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) champion North Central (Ill.).
The Warhawks (17-4 overall) took one doubles match and trailed 2-1 heading into singles competition.
Autumn Bruno (Milwaukee, Wis./Greenfield Whitnall) and
Cassie Lee (Downers Grove, Ill./Timothy Christian) combined for an 8-5 triumph at the No. 1 slot before the Cardinals (19-5) claimed the final two matches for a 2-1 lead.
UW-Whitewater took the first two singles decisions to level the dual at 3-3.
Bethany Marshall (Cary, Ill./Cary-Grove) earned a 6-1, 6-1 win at the fourth position and was followed by Lee, who followed suit with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at the second position.
North Central earned the next team point before the Warhawks closed out the match with the next three. Bruno collected a 6-3, 6-1 triumph at the first position before
Gianna Nikoleit (Elmhurst, Ill./York Community) clinched the dual with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 win at the third position.
Kellie Ha (Palatine, Ill./Fremd) concluded the day with a 7-6 (2), 3-6, 1-0 (10-5) victory at the fifth position.
UW-Whitewater hosts the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Team Tournament April 30 at the Warhawk Outdoor Tennis Complex. The top-seeded Warhawks face fourth-seeded UW-Stevens Point at 12 p.m. in the tournament semifinals.
