The No. 34 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's tennis team collected its fourth consecutive win Thursday morning by defeating Carleton (Minn.) 6-3 in Hilton Head Island, S.C.
The Warhawks (14-1 overall) finished their annual spring break trip with a 3-0 record. Thursday afternoon's scheduled dual against Allegheny (Pa.) was canceled.
Alex Gray (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) and
John Zakowski (Green Bay, Wis./Southwest), the No. 17 ranked pair in NCAA Division III by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, teamed up for an 8-4 triumph at No. 1 doubles.
Rory Calabria (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) and
Cole Lindwall (Cottage Grove, Wis./Monona Grove) combined for an 8-5 victory at No. 2 to give UW-W a 2-1 advantage.
UW-Whitewater took the first three singles matches to clinch the dual. Gray was first on the board with a 6-1, 6-2 win at the fourth position and was followed by
Brendan Pietila (Sussex, Wis./Arrowhead), who earned a 6-2, 6-0 triumph at the sixth position.
Cole Lindwall (Cottage Grove, Wis./Monona Grove) clinched the dual with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at the second position.
Niclas Goltz (Freiburg, Germany/Droste-Hülshoff-Gymnasium) added a 7-5, 6-4 win at the third slot.
Carleton dropped to 9-2 with the loss.
The Warhawks host Coe (Iowa) on Sunday, April 3, at the Warhawk Outdoor Tennis Complex. First serve is slated for 12 p.m.
