The No. 33 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's tennis team took two of three matches in doubles play and five of six in singles play Sunday afternoon on its way to a 7-2 victory against George Fox (Ore.) in Hilton Head Island, S.C.
Autumn Bruno (Milwaukee, Wis./Greenfield Whitnall) and
Cassie Lee (Downers Grove, Ill./Timothy Christian) started the dual on the right note for the Warhawks (13-2 overall), combining for an 8-1 triumph at. No. 1 doubles.
Kellie Ha (Palatine, Ill./Fremd) and
Molly Rueth (Wheaton, Ill./Glenbard West) trailed 7-6 at No. 3 before tying the pro set and sending it to a tiebreaker, where they eventually emerged with an 8-7 (2) win.
Lee was victorious by retirement at the second singles position, and Bruno was next on the board with a 6-1, 6-2 triumph at the first position.
Bethany Marshall (Cary, Ill./Cary-Grove) clinched the dual for UW-W with a 6-1, 6-2 win at the fourth slot.
Ha and
Gianna Nikoleit (Elmhurst, Ill./York Community) also finished with victories for the Warhawks at the sixth and third positions, respectively. Ha was a 6-1, 6-2 winner, while Nikoleit collected a 6-2, 6-3 triumph.
UW-Whitewater's spring break trip continues Monday with a pair of duals. The Warhawks face Union (N.Y.) at 8 a.m. Central Time and Wooster (Ohio) at 2 p.m. Central Time.
