The No. 14 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater baseball team posted its second straight shutout Thursday with a 5-0 victory against Rhodes (Tenn.) at Blue Wahoos Stadium in Pensacola, Fla.
The Warhawks (4-2 overall) totaled 10 hits and scored three runs in the bottom of the third to take the lead for good. UW-W held the Lynx (9-10-1) scoreless on seven hits.
Kade Lancour (Nekoosa, Wis./Nekoosa) improved to 2-0 on the season by tossing seven shutout innings, scattering five hits and one walk while striking out six.
Joey Pettit (West Bend, Wis./Marquette University HS) and
Eli Frank (Suamico, Wis./Bay Port) each pitched one shutout frame in relief of Lancour.
Right fielder
Jacob DeMeyer (Harshaw, Wis./Rhinelander) finished 3-for-4 with one run scored and three runs batted in. First baseman
Nick Paget (New Berlin, Wis./West) collected two hits and one RBI, while
Austin Wessel (Hayward, Wis./Hayward) registered two hits and one run scored. Shortstop
Bennett Frazer (Hobart, Wis./Oconto) reached base twice with one hit and one walk and scored two runs.
Wessell tallied the first run of the game, scoring from third on a wild pitch. DeMeyer then singled to left to plate Frazer and left fielder
Matt Scolan (Downers Grove, Ill./South).
DeMeyer knocked a base hit through the left side with one out in the fifth to give UW-W a 4-0 advantage, and after Lancour stranded runners in back-to-back innings, Paget plated DeMeyer on an infield single.
