The No. 33 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's tennis team secured a pair of victories Saturday at Lake Geneva Tennis in Lake Geneva.
The Warhawks (12-1 overall) topped Augustana (Ill.) by a 9-0 score and defeated Grinnell (Iowa) by a 7-2 final tally.
Twelve different players saw action for UW-Whitewater against Augustana (5-9).
Molly Rueth (Wheaton, Ill./Glenbard West) and
Kellie Ha (Palatine, Ill./Fremd) put UW-W on the board with an 8-2 triumph at No. 1 doubles. The second pair of
Bethany Marshall (Cary, Ill./Cary-Grove) and
Courtney Day (Oshkosh, Wis./North) posted an 8-1 win, and the third combination of
Gianna Nikoleit (Elmhurst, Ill./York Community) and
Sarah Ferguson (Oak Creek, Wis./Oak Creek) earned an 8-4 victory to complete the doubles sweep.
Autumn Bruno (Milwaukee, Wis./Greenfield Whitnall) collected a 6-1, 6-0 triumph at No. 1 singles, and
MacKenzie Lindow (East Troy, Wis./East Troy) clinched the dual with a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 5.
Cassie Lee (Downers Grove, Ill./Timothy Christian) and
Elsie Ha (Palatine, Ill./Fremd) were next on the board in singles, earning straight-set victories at the Nos. 2 and 3 positions, respectively.
Bryce Bigelow (Kenosha, Wis./Tremper) recorded a 6-4, 7-5 triumph at No. 4 and Zenia Baretto finished off the dual with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 6.
Against Grinnell (12-2), the Warhawks pulled out several impressive results, including a 3-0 team doubles mark. Rueth and
Kellie Ha (Palatine, Ill./Fremd) gave the team the lead with an 8-5 victory at the second position, while Bruno and Lee topped Irene Agusti and Sabrina Tang at the first slot by an 8-6 score. Marshall and Day completed the doubles shutout with an 8-4 triumph at the third position.
Nikoleit scored a 6-4, 6-2 win at the third singles spot. Lee clinched the dual with a 6-1, 6-3 triumph against Agusti, an Intercollegiate Tennis Association regional semifinalist in the fall and the No. 43 ranked singles player in the nation, at the second position.
Bruno recorded a 6-1, 2-6, 6-4 victory at No. 1 against Tang, who is ranked 12th in the nation.
Kellie Ha (Palatine, Ill./Fremd) registered a 6-2, 7-5 triumph at No. 6 to wrap up the match.
UW-Whitewater hosts Division I Milwaukee Sunday at 4 p.m. in Lake Geneva.
