The No. 30 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's tennis team posted its third shutout in the last four duals Sunday afternoon with a 9-0 triumph against Augustana (Ill.) at Lake Geneva Tennis in Lake Geneva, Wis.
The Warhawks (11-1 overall) started the dual with three doubles wins.
Rory Calabria (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) and
Cole Lindwall (Cottage Grove, Wis./Monona Grove) were first on the board with an 8-1 victory at No. 2. The duo was followed by
Alex Gray (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) and
John Zakowski (Green Bay, Wis./Southwest), who combined for an 8-3 triumph at No. 1.
Brendan Pietila (Sussex, Wis./Arrowhead) and
Payton Adkisson (Lincolnshire, Ill./Stevenson) rebounded from a 5-4 deficit, taking three of the last four games for an 8-6 win at No. 3.
Niclas Goltz (Freiburg, Germany/Droste-Hülshoff-Gymnasium) started UW-Whitewater in singles with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at the second position.
Ryan Mitchell (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) clinched the dual with a 6-4, 6-1 triumph at the fourth position.
At No. 5, Pietila earned a 6-1, 6-1 win, and was followed by Gray, who collected a 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 3.
Lindwall dropped his second set before claiming a third set super tiebreaker in a 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (10-5) triumph at No. 1. Adkisson finished the dual with a 6-1, 7-5 win at No. 6.
The Warhawks head to Hilton Head Island, S.C. next week for the program's annual spring break trip. UW-W is set to take on Union (N.Y.) and Wooster (Ohio) on March 21.
