The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's track and field team closed out competition Saturday at the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships, tying for 10th overall in the team standings with a total of 25 team points at JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C.
David Fassbender (Slinger, Wis./Slinger) earned his second All-America medal of the meet with a third-place finish in the 3,000-meter run. His time of 8:17.95 was just over a second off the winning pace. Fassbender also placed fifth in the 5,000-meter run on Friday.
Gunner Schlender (Brillion, Wis./Brillion) finished the race in 8:32.08 to place 17th overall.
Shelvin Garrett II (Beloit, Wis./Memorial) secured his first All-America honor by finishing third in the triple jump. He tallied a personal record mark of 48-09.50 (14.87 meters) on his final jump of the day to move up one spot in the event standings.
Curtis Pfeil (West Bend, Wis./West) completed his second jumping event of the weekend, placing 17th in the triple with his distance of 45-09.00 (13.94 meters).
Justin Krause (Ixonia, Wis./Pewaukee) placed 10th in the 1-mile run with a time of 4:15.07. He qualified Friday with a career-best time of 4:09.96.
The Warhawks' team finish is its ninth among the nation's top 10 at the NCAA Indoor Championships since 2010.
