Track and Field Teams Collect Five All-America Honors on First Day at NCAAs

Five members of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's and women's track and field teams collected All-America honors while one other advanced the final in his event on the first day of the 2022 NCAA Division III Indoor Championships on Friday at JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C.
 
The Warhawk men are second after the opening day with 13 team points, while the women are tied for 20th overall with four team points.
 
The men's trio of Christian Patzka (Black Earth, Wis./Wisconsin Heights), David Fassbender (Slinger, Wis./Slinger) and Gunner Schlender (Brillion, Wis./Brillion) finished 4-5-6 in the 5,000-meter run to highlight the day. Patzka, now a two-time All-American in his career, posted a career-best 14:17.00 to place fourth. Fassbender, now a three-time track All-American, crossed the finish line fifth in 14:17.47, and Schlender picked up his first All-America accolade in track with a personal record time of 14:20.57.
 
Daustin Martin (Jefferson, Wis./Jefferson) earned his second career All-America medal in the weight throw with his distance of 59-09.00 (18.21 meters), good for eighth place.
 
Justin Krause (Ixonia, Wis./Pewaukee) punched a ticket to the final in the 1-mile run with his career-best time of 4:09.96.
 
For the women, Gracie Holland (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield) collected her first All-America honor in pole vault with a height of 12-05.50 (3.80 meters), good for fifth place overall.
 
Other competitors on the day included Landon Keefover (Antioch, Ill./Antioch), who placed 11th in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.28 seconds, Curtis Pfeil (West Bend, Wis./West), who finished 13th in the long jump with a 22-04.25 (6.81 meters), and Abigail Missiaen (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) of the women's team, who tallied a personal record score of 3,247 in the pentathlon to place 11th overall.
