The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's and women's track and field teams competed in their first away meet Saturday at the Big Dawg Invitational in Stevens Point, Wis.
The Warhawk men claimed first place in four events, while the women won three events.
D'Angelo Dear (Green Bay, Wis./Preble),
Christian Patzka (Black Earth, Wis./Wisconsin Heights) and
Landon Keefover (Antioch, Ill./Antioch) were victorious on the track for the UW-W men. Dear posted a career-best 6.97 to cross the finish line first in the 60-meter dash, while Patzka tallied a 4:20.25 to win the 1-mile run. Keefover finished the 60-meter hurdles in 8.41 seconds, more than two-tenths faster than the runner-up.
Daustin Martin (Jefferson, Wis./Jefferson) improved his season-best toss in the weight throw to 57-11.00 (17.65 meters), good for 19th in NCAA Division III, to top a field of 24 competitors at more than three feet further than the runner-up.
Gracie Holland (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield) led the women by moving into the top 15 in the nation in the pole vault. She registered a season-best height of 11-11.25 (3.64 meters).
Ari De La Cerda (Milwaukee, Wis./Pewaukee) captured the 1-mile run with a personal record time of 5:19.38. The team's 4x400-meter relay team of
Kylie Jacobs (Watertown, Wis./Watertown),
Katie McNamara (Geneva, Ill./Geneva),
Paige Fassbender (Slinger, Wis./Slinger) and
Sarah Niehueser (Fond du Lac, Wis./Winnebago Lutheran Academy) crossed the finish line first in 4:08.92. McNamara also finished as runner-up in the 400-meter dash, completing the race in 1:02.38.
The Warhawks host the Midwest Elite Invitational next Saturday, Feb. 12, at Kachel Fieldhouse.
