The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's tennis team won four of six singles matches Friday on its way to a 5-4 victory against North Central (Ill.) at Lake Geneva Tennis in Lake Geneva.
The Warhawks (8-0 overall) dropped two of their three doubles matches in a dual for the first time this season.
Rory Calabria (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) and
Cole Lindwall (Cottage Grove, Wis./Monona Grove) topped Colten Way and Andy Hinch 8-4 at the No. 2 slot to pick up the team's lone doubles point.
After the Cardinals (7-2) took a 3-1 lead by taking the first singles match, Calabria posted a 6-3, 6-2 triumph at the third position and
John Zakowski (Green Bay, Wis./Southwest) claimed a 6-4, 6-0 win at the first position to tie the dual at 3-3.
Niclas Goltz (Freiburg, Germany/Droste-Hülshoff-Gymnasium) gave UW-W a 4-3 advantage with a 6-3, 6-4 victory at the fourth spot. After North Central tied the dual at 4-4,
Brendan Pietila (Sussex, Wis./Arrowhead) came through at No. 6 with a dual-clinching 6-3, 7-5 triumph.
UW-Whitewater hosts Carthage at 9 a.m. and Dubuque (Iowa) at 4 p.m. on Saturday in Lake Geneva.
