The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's and women's track and field teams competed Friday at North Central College's F. Lee Slick Invitational, the final meet for the teams prior to next week's Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Indoor Championships.
 
The Warhawk men placed third with a team score of 139.5, while the women finished fourth with a score of 75.
 
Daustin Martin (Jefferson, Wis./Jefferson) highlighted the men with a career-best toss of 60-11.25 (18.57 meters), the No. 5 mark in NCAA Division III. He placed first and was followed by Tommy Morton (Mount Prospect, Ill./Prospect), who finished as runner-up with a 51-08.25 (15.75 meters).
 
Shelvin Garrett II (Beloit, Wis./Memorial) won the triple jump with his distance of 46-11.50 (14.31 meters).
 
On the track, Landon Keefover (Antioch, Ill./Antioch) placed second in the 60-meter hurdles in a season-best 8.26 seconds, which currently ranks as a top 20 result in the nation. Victor Rinaldi (Medford, Wis./Medford) led a group of six Warhawks in the 60-meter dash final with a 6.91, good for second place. Garrett placed third in 6.97 seconds and was followed closely by D'Angelo Dear (Green Bay, Wis./Preble), who finished fourth in 6.98 seconds.
 
Dear went on to win the 200-meter dash in a career-best 22.50 seconds to beat 40 other runners. Luke Zanis (St. Charles, Ill./North) finished as runner-up in the 400-meter dash in 50.77 seconds.
 
On the women's side, Gracie Holland (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield) cleared a personal record height in the pole vault with a 12-04.00 (3.76 meters), good for first place. She now ranks eighth in NCAA Division III in the event.
 
Paige Fassbender (Slinger, Wis./Slinger) topped a field of 27 runners in the 800-meter run with her season-best time of 2:18.46.
 
Kenni Czarnecki (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) finished third in both the shot put and weight throw. She tallied a season-best 39-06.50 (12.05 meters) in the shot put and a personal record 48-10.25 (14.89 meters) in the weight throw.
 
Kylie Jacobs (Watertown, Wis./Watertown) and Katie McNamara (Geneva, Ill./Geneva) finished 2-3 in the 400-meter dash. Jacobs crossed the finish line in 1:01.14, while McNamara posted a 1:01.27.
 
Ari De La Cerda (Milwaukee, Wis./Pewaukee) finished fifth in the 1-mile run in a career-best time of 5:12.77. Tina Shelton (Janesville, Wis./Parker) ran a career-best 7.93 second in the 60-meter dash to finish fifth in the event.
 
The WIAC Indoor Championship (Presented by Culver's) takes place next Friday-Saturday, Feb. 25-26, at UW-Platteville.
