The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's and women's swimming and diving teams each remained in fourth place following Friday's third day of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships (presented by Culver's) at Schroeder Aquatic Center in Brown Deer.
The Warhawk men own 212 team points, while the women hold a total of 229 points.
Gabby Sponseller (Goshen, Ind./Concord) and
Anna Yeazel (Whitewater, Wis./Whitewater) led the women by placing fifth and seventh, respectively, in the 100-yard breaststroke. Sponseller touched the wall in 1:08.32 and was closely followed by Yeazel, who completed the race in 1:10.63.
Abby Thompson (De Pere, Wis./De Pere) reached the podium in the 400-yard individual medley. She registered a time of 4:57.38 seconds to finish eighth in the event.
Ciara Hynes (Eureka, Mo./Eureka) claimed the "B" final in the 100-yard butterfly with her time of 1:02.53.
For the men,
Tyler Popke (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie) finished fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke with his time of 57.36 seconds, while
Ethan Coons (Neenah, Wis./Neenah) placed sixth in the 100-yard butterfly in 52.64 seconds.
Joe Wenszell (Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Virtual Learning) won the "B" finals of the 100 fly with a time of 51.69 seconds and the 100-yard backstroke in 52.18 seconds.
Hunter Hayberger (Sandusky, Ohio/Sandusky) finished first in the 200-yard freestyle "B" final with a result of 1:44.92.
Competition concludes Saturday with preliminaries at 10 a.m. and finals at 6 p.m.
