Appleton, Wis. - The UW-Whitewater women's swimming and diving team competed in a double dual hosted by Lawrence University Saturday. The Warhawk women topped the host team 165-67 and fell to Lake Forest College 131-110.
UWW kicked off the meet with a win in the 200 yard medley relay.
Izzy Doczy (Greendale, Wis./Greendale),
Hailey Vogel (Rockwell City, Iowa/Fort Dodge),
Jenna Denton (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon) and
Brianna Dobke (/) combined for a top time of 1:54.52.
In the first individual event of the day,
Nikolina Gallo (Greendale, Wis./Greendale) was the second to come into the wall in the 1000 freestyle recording a time of 11:36.46. She was also the top Warhawk to finish in the 100 freestyle with a third-place time of 1:00.07.
Vogel paced the competition in the 50 freestyle with a time of 25.82 to win the event by over a second. In the 100 backstroke, Doczy and
Hannah Wenszell (West Bend, Wis./Wisconsin Virtual) finished back-to-back in second and third. Doczy registered a time of 1:03.89, less than three-tenths behind the lead, while Wenszell was clocked in 1:07.34.
Davey secured a gold in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:15.01. She added a bronze in the 200 individual medley stopping the clock in 2:27.10. Denton followed suit in the 100 butterfly with a third-place time of 1:02.32.
UW-Whitewater capped the swimming portion of the meet with another gold. The Warhawks' 200 freestyle relay squad featuring Vogel, Gallo, Doczy and Denton combined for a time of 1:45.15 to win the event by over five seconds.
Off the diving board,
Olivia Santiago (Auburn, Cal./Placer) had a fantastic day claiming gold in both the one and three meter competitions. The freshman posted a score of 224.85 to win the three meter dive -- ranked second in program history. Off the one meter board, Santiago accumulated a total of 208.85 - the third-best one meter total in program history - followed by teammate Brookelyn Kelpfer's 201.45 in second.
The Warhawks have one more dual left to prepare for the conference championships. UW-Whitewater will head to Eau Claire for a dual against the Blugolds on January 31. The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships are scheduled for February 18-22 in Brown Deer.
