The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's and women's swimming and diving teams are each fourth through the completion of two relay events following Wednesday's first session of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships (presented by Culver's) at Schroeder Aquatic Center in Brown Deer.
The Warhawk men are fourth with 62 team points, while the women are fourth with 58 points.
The men's 200-yard medley relay team of
Joe Wenszell (Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Virtual Learning),
Tyler Popke (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie),
Ethan Coons (Neenah, Wis./Neenah) and
Donny Gramer (Sycamore, Ill./Sycamore) finished third in the event with a time of 1:33.73. Gramer also swam the 800-yard freestyle relay with
Anthony Mrozowski (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North),
Zach Miller (Saukville, Wis./Port Washington) and
Hunter Hayberger (Sandusky, Ohio/Sandusky). The group placed fourth with a time of 7:04.17.
The women's 200-yard medley relay team of
Gianna Gnewuch (Madison, Wis./Verona Area),
Anna Yeazel (Whitewater, Wis./Whitewater),
Ciara Hynes (Eureka, Mo./Eureka) and
Emily Connell (New Berlin, Wis./Eisenhower) raced to a time of 1:52.98, good for fourth place in the event. Gnewuch, Connell,
Gabby Sponseller (Goshen, Ind./Concord) and
Morgan Nabors (Spring Green, Wis./River Valley) later finished fifth in the 800-yard freestyle relay in 8:08.58.
Action continues Thursday with preliminaries at 10 a.m. and finals at 6:30 p.m.
