The No. 9 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's volleyball team split a pair of matches to wrap up play in the New York University Fall Tournament Saturday. The Warhawks fell to No. 10 NYU 3-1 (25-20, 27-29, 25-16, 25-21) before topping Swarthmore 3-1 25-14, 14-25, 25-20, 25-22) in the team's final match of the tournament.
UW-W struggled to find their momentum offensively in the opener Saturday while the host hit over .300 in two of the four sets.
Erin McNeil (Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge) led the Warhawks with 16 kills hitting .300 in the first match of the day.
Jenna Weinfurt (Waukesha, Wis./Catholic Memorial) and
Allyson Warburton (St. Charles, Ill./North) each added 11 kills. Defensively at the net,
Kirsten Anderson (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie) registered six assist blocks.
KellyAnn Sotiros (New Berlin, Wis./West Allis Hale) and
Emma Bludgen (Aurora, Ill./Metea Valley) combined for 45 assists in the contest. Sotiros also led UW-W with 17 digs.
Morgan Jensen (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie) added 16.
The Warhawks bounced back offensively to post a more efficient outing at the net against Swarthmore.
Weinfurt led the offense with nine kills, adding a team-high 10 digs.
Hannah Proctor (Durand, Ill./Durand) and McNeil each added eight while Anderson continued to bolster the defense with six blocks including one solo.
Sotiros and Bludgen combined to dish out 36 assists adding four service aces.
