The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater volleyball team, ranked ninth in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association poll, kicked off its trip to New York with a 3-0 win over No. 19 MIT Friday afternoon. The match was the team's first of the New York University Fall Tournament.
In one of, if not the longest three-set match in the modern scoring era in program history, the Warhawks battled to win 30-28, 27-25, 30-28. UW-Whitewater's win streak now stands at 12 matches. The Warhawks have another battle ahead facing off with the host and tenth-ranked NYU Saturday morning at 11:30 Central.
UW-W's net defense was phenomenal posting a season high 15.0 total blocks in the contest.
Hannah Proctor (Durand, Ill./Durand) led the way with a solo and eight block assists.
Jenna Weinfurt (Waukesha, Wis./Catholic Memorial) added a solo and six assist blocks in the match.
Erin McNeil (Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge) and
Kirsten Anderson (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie) shared match-high honors with 14 kills each while the pair combined for nine assist blocks.
KellyAnn Sotiros (New Berlin, Wis./West Allis Hale) registered 24 assists and led all players with three aces from the service line.
Morgan Jensen (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie) tallied a match-high 13 digs in the contest with a perfect mark in serve-receive despite being targeted on a team-high 19 serves.
