Warhawks Battle to Tie with No. 7 GAC

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's soccer team battled to a 3-3 tie with No. 7 Gustavus Adolphus at Fiskum Field in Whitewater Sunday evening.

The Warhawks struck first just minutes into the contest. Zack Kristy (Burr Ridge, Ill./Lyons Township) took the throw in from the right side, launching the ball into the box. The ball barely went over the heads of a pair of strikers and hit a Gustie defender in front of the net. The deflection threw off the GAC keeper for an own goal and a 1-0 UW-Whitewater lead just over two minutes into play.

In the 11th minute, the Gusties drew a foul just outside of the box. Gustavus Adolphus tallied the equalizer with a bending free kick around the wall just made it inside the right post for a goal.

The Warhawks drew a foul in the box late in the first half following a long cross into the box from Cooper Re (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly). The referee whistled immediately and signaled for the penalty kick. Will Hamilton (Lake Geneva, Wis./Badger) stepped to the 'X' and capitalized to give UW-W a 2-1 lead in the 40th minute.

The Gusties answered in the 44th minute as GAC got in behind the Warhawk defense for a one timer off of a cross in.

Just under four minutes into the second half, another Kristy throw-in led to another Warhawk goal. Jalen Holley (Milwaukee, Wis./Wauwatosa East) and Jacob Mouille (Waunakee, Wis./Waunakee) both got their heads on the throw in sending the ball to the back post where Evan Donini (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha West) stood with nearly an open net. He headed the ball down and in to reclaim the UW-W lead 3-2.

That score held until the 76th minute when the Gusties registered the final goal of the game for the draw.

Jake King (McHenry, Ill./McHenry West) made some incredible saves in net for UW-Whitewater. He made five in the contest.
