Box Score 2 The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's tennis team swept a pair of Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference foes Saturday. The Warhawks opened the day with a 9-0 win over UW-River Falls followed by a 9-0 win over UW-Stout.
In the opener,
Gianna Nikoleit (Elmhurst, Ill./York Community) and
Courtney Day (Oshkosh, Wis./North) (8-2),
Gracie Ha (Palatine, Ill./Fremd) and
Bethany Marshall (Cary, Ill./Cary-Grove) (8-3), and
Sarah Ferguson (Oak Creek, Wis./Oak Creek) and
Faith Nosek (Oconomowoc, Wis./BVA) (8-1) picked up the first three wins of the day in doubles competition for UW-W.
Autumn Bruno (Milwaukee, Wis./Greenfield Whitnall) took No. 1 singles 6-0, 6-1 with
Cassie Lee (Downers Grove, Ill./Timothy Christian) topping the competition at No. 2 singles by the same score. The Warhawks' No. 3 singles player,
Kasey Schlicht (Pewaukee, Wis./Pewaukee) registered a 6-1, 6-1 win.
Kellie Ha (Palatine, Ill./Fremd) had the closest singles match of the morning winning 6-2, 6-4.
Molly Asfeld (Waukesha, Wis./West) took No. 5 singles 6-2, 6-2 and
MacKenzie Lindow (East Troy, Wis./East Troy) swept her opponent at No. 6 singles.
In the nightcap against UW-Stout, the Warhawk doubles teams finished in order with Bruno and Lee's score (8-2) coming in first. Schlicht and
Kellie Ha (Palatine, Ill./Fremd) also registered an 8-2 finish while Lindow and
Gracie Ha (Palatine, Ill./Fremd) took No. 3 8-1.
Day posted the first singles win of the match with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep at No. 5. Nikoleit's 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles sealed the win. Marshall (6-0, 6-0), Asfeld (6-1, 6-1), Nosek (6-2, 6-2) and Ferguson (6-1, 6-1) registered the final singles wins of the day to secure the sweep.
The next stop for the Warhawks is the WIAC Championships slated for Saturday-Sunday, October 22-23 at Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison.
