Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s Soccer Remains Unbeaten at Home With Win

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's soccer team withstood a late second-half push Wednesday night for a 3-2 victory against Loras (Iowa) to retain the Hawk Cup rivalry trophy in a match under the lights at Fiskum Field.

The Warahwks (7-1-1 overall) scored a pair of first-half goals and added another in the 70th minute to take a 3-1 lead.

The Duhawks (6-3-1) cut into the UW-W lead with a goal in the 77th minute and posted shots in the 82nd and 90th minutes. The Warhawks' defense withstood Loras' attempts to find an equalizer to earn the victory.

UW-W finished with edges in shots on goal (5-4) and corner kicks (7-5) in the contest.

UW-Whitewater found the back of the net first in the eighth minute as Alec Sykes (Milwaukee, Wis./West Allis Hale) connected with Matthew Waters (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South), who found a spot in the upper right corner for a 1-0 lead.

The Warhawks tallied three more shots, including two on goal, and one corner kick over the next eight minutes, but the Duhawks leveled the match in the 15th minute.

Loras registered two more shots and UW-Whitewater earned a pair of corner kicks over the next 20 minutes of action. UW-W took the lead back in the 35th minute as Jacob Mouille (Waunakee, Wis./Waunakee) finished to the lower right corner on a pass from Faizan Mohiuddin (South Elgin, Ill./St. Charles North).

The Duhawks attempted three more shots and had two corner kicks over the final 10 minutes of the period, but the Warhawks kept the score at 2-1 into halftime.

Goalkeeper Jake King (McHenry, Ill./McHenry West) saved the first shot on goal of the second half in the 51st minute. One minute after King's second save of the half, Mohiuddin collected the game-winning goal on an assist from Jalen Holley (Milwaukee, Wis./Wauwatosa East) in the 70th minute, giving UW-Whitewater a two-goal cushion and setting the stage for the rest of the match.

King totaled two saves playing all 90 minutes in goal.

Waters attempted a team-high three shots, including two on goal.

The Warhawks resume action Friday at Wisconsin Lutheran. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. in Milwaukee.
